December 4, 2011: “Financial Frontera: Center leader seeks tech success.” Sooner or later that university student needs to get off mom and dad's payroll and make his or her mark in the U.S. economy. By the way, in case it hasn't been reported on campus, mom and dad would prefer sooner than later -- and on a permanent basis. For complete article click here
November 27, 2011: “Financial Frontera: Business culture changes necessary.” What hasn't been invented yet might very well become a driver for the El Paso economy. "Whazzat?" After all, this region has the maquiladoras and $71 billion in trade annually crossing la frontera. Fort Bliss continues to alchemize sand dunes into an economic blowtorch. We are now one of the 20 most-populous cities in the country. Find the complete article here

October 3, 2011: “Border Business: How Mexico's Maquiladoras Benefit The U.S. Economy.” Despite its ideal location right on the U.S.-Mexico border, New Mexico ranks 38th in trade with Mexico. That's a fact not lost on the business community in the southern part of the state, where an industrial revolution of sorts is slowly taking shape. For complete article click here
October 2, 2011: “Michael Hissam: Wanted on border: tecnicos.” In the maquiladora world, much as with U.S. industry, it is easy to equate "work force" with "blue collar" or production operators, and "management" as just about everybody else between shop floor and corner office. It just doesn't work that way. In fact "keeping the shop running" depends very much on tecnicos or skilled trades people. Think electricistas, plomeros, carpinteros; no translation needed for these cognates. Hay mas; there are more. Find the complete article here
